Ram Goel is in the field of disability for more than four decades as a Physiotherapist and as a Disability Activist. He is the only physiotherapist in India to receive The British Council Scholarship in UK to study ‘Sports Physiotherapy’ and ‘Kesseler International Fellowship Award’ in USA. He was in-charge of Physiotherapy Unit of King George’s Medical University, Lucknow.
He is associated with HANDICARE-Indian Association of Persons with Disabilities, since its inception in 1986, as its Principal Advisor. He also used to edit its official journal ‘HANDINEWS’ and wrote several articles concerning disabled people/disability.
He has also been associated with disabled sports and was the official physiotherapist of Indian Disabled Sportsmen team which participated in ‘International Disabled Games’ held in Shiga, Japan in 1981. He was the only Indian delegate who attended ‘FESPIC Regional Workshop on Disabled Sports’ at Hong Kong in 1990.
He also looks after the ‘National Disability Helpline’.
He is widely travelled and has vast experience in the field of disability. He has a good collection of some very rare books and journals on disability.
Kabir is sensitive and proactive towards issues concerning disability.
When he was young, he used to celebrate his birthdays at Government Blind Schools. He wrote a very inspiring essay on these visits when he was in ninth standard, which was published in ‘The Hindustan Times’.
The topic of his M. Phill. thesis was ‘Parenting Autistic Children – A Psycho-Anthropological Perspective’.
Besides all this, he is also a voracious reader (book worm in real sense) and has a huge personal library too.
Santosh Bhaiya, as he is fondly called, is one person HANDICARE can depend upon any time. First to reach at the venues of the events to be organized by HANDICARE or doing complicated computer work, Santosh is the man for all seasons for HANDICARE.
His qualities came in very handy while developing this website and they would certainly be an asset in future also.
A disabled person himself, he looks after disabled sports in U.P. and has successfully led the disabled sportsmen team for various national events.
In recognition for his abilities U.P. Government twice awarded him with State Awards.
Mridu R. Goel
Mridu Goel besides being the founder of ‘HANDICARE-Indian Association of Persons with Disabilities’, is also a prominent disability activist of the country and has many feathers to her cap and has rightly been bestowed with many awards including a National Award.
It is her precise supervision and eye for details that will ensure that like HANDICARE, thedisabilitybooks.org too would make its mark and presence felt and at the same time be worthy of its formation/creation.
